Can I Wreck It?

Transition Song: Five Little Ghosts by The Kiboomers

Vocabulary and Basic Concepts: Wreck/wrecks/wrecked, knock/knocks/knocked, dinosaur, robot, blocks, building, Can I, yes/no, wait, problem, solve, happy, sad, mad, worried, afraid.

This week Miss Carrie read the book Rex Wrecks It by Ben Clanton.  In the book, Rex keeps wrecking everything.  Wreck means to knock something down or break it. The group in the book has a problem with that and comes up with two solutions. There was a lot of RAWR-ing in the book.  We had fun talking about how the characters in the book could solve the problem.

Then Miss Carrie brought out boxes to use like big blocks.  We could build things together.  But, if we wanted to knock it down or wreck it, we had to ask "Can I knock it down?" Friends could answer yes or no.  If they said no, we had to wait.  Sometimes waiting is so hard!  Friends felt bad or sad or frustrated if their blocks were wrecked and they didn't want that to happen.  It was a good thing to practice.

DO THIS AT HOME: Pull out boxes or blocks, build, and then practice asking first to wreck it.  Talk about your feelings if someone wrecks it before you said yes or no.

Binoculars Up! Let's Go On A Jungle Hunt.

Transition Song: Five Little Ghosts by the Kiboomers

Vocabulary and Basic concepts: /g/ words, animals, What/Where questions, jungle, animal sounds, bids bugs, loud/quiet, gopher, grasshopper, seagull, eagle, penguin, dog, goat, goldfish, gecko, glow worm, gazelle, grouse, earwig, grison, sea slug, wart hog, gorilla, pig, frog, flamingo, I like/don't like.

This week we played a game called "Binoculars Up".  We pretended to hold binoculars up to our eyes and went on a hunt for different animals, birds, bugs, and fish around the room.  All the animals had a /g/ sound in their name.  If we put our fingers on our neck and make the /g/ sound, we can feel our throat tickle our fingers.

Binoculars up!

Out in the jungle...

What do I see?

I see a.....

Everyone walked all over the preschool classroom to find the different pictures.  If we didn't know what it was, teachers could help us.  Where does this animal live?  In the water?  On a farm? In the jungle?  In the ocean?  What sound does it make?  Sometimes we didn't know.

Afterwards, we gathered back at the rug and everyone had a turn to tell the class what they found.

DO THIS AT HOME:  Look at picture books of different animals, go to a farm, go to the zoo, or look around your neighborhood.  What animals can you find?  What sounds do they make?  Bonus points if the adults also use their "binoculars".

This week, we read the book Leaf Man by Lois Ehlert.

We talked about leaves on the trees turning colors and falling down.  Did the leaves turn colors where you live?

Miss Carrie brought a big box of pretend leaves.  They were all different colors.  Some were big and some were little.  Miss Carrie put them out and we played with the leaves.

DO THIS AT HOME:  Go for a walk and look at the trees around your neighborhood or around a park.  Collect leaves and compare what is the same and what is different. collect some to take home and talk about another time.

On Thursday, it was Miss Carrie's birthday.  She had been wearing her sparkly crown all week long.  For her birthday, Miss Carrie invited everyone to a special Large Group Birthday Party.  She handed out flutes and we had a Birthday Dance Party. Everyone got a flute to take home in their backpacks.

We blew the whistles SO LOUD!  We tried to blow them quietly, but that didn't seem to work.  We danced to songs. Miss Carrie thinks the teachers were glad when everyone stopped blowing whistles and put them in their backpacks.

DO THIS AT HOME: No, don't worry about it.  Those whistles were loud!
