What Can We Make? Let's Cooperate.

Transition Song:  Go To Sleep song

Vocabulary and Basic Concepts: He/She, building, blocks, scarves, short/tall, tall/taller/tallest, cooperate, more/less, wreck, fall, yes/no, make, What/Where, Who.

This week, Miss Carrie brought out her big blocks (cardboard boxes covered in colorful duct tape) and her scarves.  She wondered what we could make with blocks and scarves.  We noticed that when we each built a separate tower, the towers were short.  But when we cooperated together, the towers were so tall.  We had to communicate with each other on what to do, where to put blocks, and who was going to build or wreck it.  If we wanted to wreck it, we had to ask our friends.  They could say yes or no.

Also,  in Miss Kazia's classroom, we found a rainbow!  Funny, it didn't appear again the next day.  Hmmm.....

Look!  We found a rainbow!  Where did that come from?

DO THIS AT HOME:  find some familiar and unfamiliar building materials.  You can choose to be indoors or outdoors.  Talk about cooperation, making things taller, and see what happens.  As always, follow  your child's lead.

Tell Me About Home

Transition Song: Go To Sleep by Super Simple Songs:

Vocabulary And Basic Concepts:  Who/What/Where questions, mom, dad, brother, sister, grandma, grandpa, friend, dog, cat, baby, house/home, big/small, long/short, same/different, more/less, past tense-ed

This week, Miss Carrie said that she noticed that some of the kids talk about people at home.  So she showed a slide show of everyone's families.  Some people had more family members and some had less.  We talked about Who was in the picture, Where they were, and sometimes even What they were doing.  Some families had a new baby.  Some families were doing an activity. We even saw the families of our teachers.  It was so much fun to look at the pictures and talk about them. We had so much language going on.

Then, Miss Carrie brought out a big piece of paper and crayons.  We could draw our families and talk about them.  We talked about who lived at our house.  Some families had grandparents living with them.  Some families had nannies.  Some families had pets. Some people had uncles or aunts living with them.

DO THIS AT HOME:  Pull out your family pictures.  Talk about who is in the photo, where they were, and what they were doing.  Talk about action words (EX: swimming, walking), any celebrating that was happening, how many people are in the picture (Count them!).  Consider pulling out paper and drawing together as a family. If you can, put paper on the floor and lay on your tummy to draw (which is great for occupational therapy).
